Story behind the hunt:  First morning cold and crispy. Deer started to move around 8:30. I had already told myself that I wouldn’t shoot just anything after all, I had already in (2000) taken the biggest buck taken with Jim Nash and Whitetail Outfitting. A doe came out first with a basket rack chasing her. The rut was suppose to be over but she must be coming into estrus late as the small buck wouldn’t let her eat. So as I watched them running in and out of site at 110 yds a spike came into view. Not 10 minutes later the spike backed off of the alfalfa as a big bodied deer came into view. I looked at him 3 times. It has been over a year since I had even thought about hunting. So this wide rack got to me. I couldn’t tell he had only one Brow Time. I wouldn’t have shot had I known. I stood up shot into top half of his heart. He ran about 15 steps . as it turned out the weather got warmer and the deer slowed down their movement. My 8pt was the biggest taken that week. He graces my den along with my other Canadian on this site.
